What is the Summa Health Dream House Raffle and how will proceeds be used?

Summa Health Dream House Raffle is a community fundraising initiative to enhance supportive care services for cancer patients and provide cold caps as an option to prevent hair loss during chemotherapy. The raffle is an opportunity for the public to help raise funds for Summa Health Cancer Institute by buying a ticket for a chance to win the house of your dreams. Net proceeds raised will be used to benefit Summa Health Cancer Institute and select community partners who work to advance cancer care and provide hope and healing to individuals and families touched by cancer. Buying a ticket to win the Summa Health Dream House is not a philanthropic donation, but rather an opportunity to support Summa Heath Cancer Institute through participation in a raffle where you have a chance to win a house of your dreams.

All net proceeds benefit Summa Health Cancer Institute and our select community partners who work to advance cancer care and provide hope and healing to individuals and families touched by cancer. Our partners include the Stephen A. Comunale, Jr. Family Cancer Foundation and Stewart’s Caring Place. Summa will provide cold caps to all chemo patients, at no charge, to any patient wishing to utilize them. The cold caps will be available at all Summa infusion centers.

What are the Dream House details?

The Summa Health Dream House is being built by Schalmo Homes and will be approximately 2,230 square feet and feature a partially finished basement that includes a full bathroom and theater. The school district is Northwest Local Schools with an elementary, middle, and high school. The home is expected to be valued at approximately $318,000.00. Summa Health will have a certified appraisal done to establish the fair market value at the time of the drawing.

When does the raffle end?

The deadline to enter the raffle is midnight, October 24, 2017. The winning ticket will be drawn October 25, 2017.

Do I have to pay taxes if I win?

Yes. If the Summa Dream House is chosen as the prize, the winner assumes all fees, local, state, and federal taxes (including, but not limited to, income taxes based on the value of the house), financing costs (including, but not limited to, closing costs, title insurance, and transfer tax and fees) which must be paid when the House is transferred to the winner. Likewise, there are federal taxes and there may be state and/or local tax consequences if the winner selects the alternate $100,000 cash prize. Summa Health takes no responsibility for any tax liabilities and all taxes must be paid by the winner, before the prize is distributed. Consult your tax advisor.

Is there a cash prize option?

Yes, there is a cash option. Instead of accepting the house, the winner may choose a $100,000 cash option. Just as with the house, all taxes must be paid by the winner before the cash prize is distributed.

How do I enter to win the Summa Health Dream House Raffle?

All tickets must be purchased online and with a credit or debit card. Simply click on the “Buy Tickets Now” link on this site to be directed to the purchase page. You can purchase more than one ticket. Each ticket must be purchased separately.

How much does it cost to buy a ticket to win the Summa Dream House?

Each ticket costs $100.

What are the chances of winning?

Only 5,000 tickets will be sold. You can purchase as many tickets as you like. There is no per-person limit. Each ticket must be purchased separately.

Who is eligible to purchase raffle tickets?

Ticket purchasers and holders must be at least 18 years of age and reside in the United States. A ticket may not be purchased or held by (1) an individual who is prohibited from purchasing or holding a ticket under applicable law or applicable U.S. federal law, or (2) the following individuals and members of their immediate family who reside at the same address: (a) Officers, directors, and employees of Summa Health, (b) Summa Health Dream House Raffle media and prize sponsors, (c) Schalmo Enterprises, Inc., (d) Soltis, Tangeman, Jones, Kormushoff, Maxen & Kenney, Inc., (e) Summa Health Dream House Raffle auditors and accountants, and (f) any person who is participating in the construction of the Summa Health Dream House or is donating materials to build the Summa Health Dream House. A ticket to win the raffle may not be assigned or transferred.

What if I don’t have an email address? Can I still buy a ticket to win?

Yes, you may still buy a ticket to win, and if your payment is processed, your virtual ticket number will be entered into the drawing. There will not be tickets issued and you do not need to have a ticket in hand in order to win prizes. However, it is advisable to have an email address so that you have a record of your transaction.

If I don’t have an email address and don’t have a receipt of my purchase for a chance to win, how will I find out if I have won a prize?

Initial prize notification letters will be promptly sent to all prize winners by U.S. mail and/or by email to the address(es) provided by the purchasers. Prize drawing results (winning ticket number) will also be posted on this website

Is my ticket purchase tax deductible?

The IRS has taken the position that amounts paid for chances in raffles, lotteries, or similar drawings for valuable prizes are not gifts, and consequently do not qualify as deductible charitable contributions.

What if I want a refund?

Summa Health Dream House Raffle rules state that all ticket sales are final and that there are no refunds. Please ensure that you check your order information carefully before submitting your order.

How is the prize value calculated?

Advertised prize values are approximate retail values as of the date that contracts were negotiated with suppliers. Due to housing market fluctuations, the market value of the real estate prizes may rise or diminish over time. The winner is not entitled to the difference, if any, between the stated and actual market value at the time the prize is awarded. Prize values include applicable taxes paid by the winner of the raffle.

What happens if I cannot claim my prize in person?

Winners will be notified by U.S. mail as to what they have won and how to claim their prize.

Are the drawings audited?

Yes. An independent auditor audits the drawing.

How long do I have to claim my prize?

Winners will have ninety (90) days after notification to claim their prizes. Each winner will be told in the notification letter of the steps necessary to claim a prize, including tax payments, and the prize deadlines. If a winner fails to claim a prize within ninety (90) days of receiving the notification, Summa Health may select another winner.
